When Should I Call An Emergency Plumber?

Carrick Plumbing & Roofing • December 26, 2024

It can be difficult to figure out what constitutes a plumbing emergency and what can wait until the next day when something has gone wrong in your home. When it comes down to it, knowing when to call in an emergency plumber isn’t always as straightforward as you would think.

It’s important to know when to call and when you can wait until the next day. Take a look at our top 5 reasons that you might need to call in an emergency plumber.

1) There is no water

Not having any running water at your house can be a sign that there’s a serious problem somewhere in your plumbing system. It could indicate a burst pipe somewhere or a major problem in your mainline.

Call an emergency plumber and get the problem sorted ASAP. Not only is it inconvenient as it means that you can’t use any of your facilities, but it can also cause health and safety hazards and prevent you from cooking and cleaning properly.

2) Gas leak

If you smell gas coming from an unknown source and suspect that there is a leak somewhere, call an emergency gas plumber immediately.

A gas leak is a serious and potentially dangerous problem. If you do suspect that there is a gas leak turn off the main gas valve immediately and open all your doors and windows to get fresh air into your home and any gas out.

3) Water leak

If there is a risk of flooding, it is definitely time to call in an emergency plumber. Flooding can be a sign of a serious underlying issue and can cause a lot of damage if not addressed immediately.

It can also end up causing you a hefty water bill as well. Turn your main water system off and get a professional in as soon as you can.

No hot water

Not having hot water can be a bit of an inconvenience when the weather is warm, but it turns into a serious issue when the weather is on the cooler side and hot water becomes a necessity.

Emergency hot water repairs are a common call out issue, so don’t feel bad about calling an emergency plumber if you find your water is refusing to heat up.

5) Blocked toilet or sewage appearing where it shouldn’t

When a toilet or sewer line backs up and becomes blocked, not only is it a huge inconvenience, but it is also a serious health hazard. Getting a professional in to get the problem sorted ASAP is a good idea.
